Default The wonderfull US intelligence

US intelligence had no idea that there were thousands of people in the New Orleans Convention Center untill yesterday, when they saw it on the news :-| . Its sad when the media has better intelligence then the US millitary. How can you not know that an area is being used as a stageing area for the city, you think you would check out something that was named a convention center. I actually heard about the people in the convention center before the US millitary. Mabey thell start looking for weapons of mass destruction in downtown New Orleans.

Not much faith in the US intelligence lately..

I'm sorry but given the tragic things going on down in Louisianna, this is not an appropriate thread.

Let's hope that the relief organizations that truly make a difference such as the American Red Cross and Feed the Children will get the needed supplies to the victims of the hurricane.

As Americans, it is incumbent on all of us to pull together to help the 200,000 homeless and not point fingers. Once the immediate emergency is past, then is the time for examination of the response and the failures that occurred.

What's wrong with telling our government that they aren't doing a good job, and they need to get their acts together?

There is nothing wrong with criticizing the government (unless of course you live in a country where that freedom is not permitted). As Aniewiel pointed out, however, there is an appropriate time for finger pointing and an appropriate time to get in and do what can be done to help.

Until the survivors have been rescued and are safe, blaming US intelligence, military intelligence, FEMA, the City of New Orleans Crisis Management Dept., the governor, or the president is a waste of energy and time. Was the ball dropped? It sure looks like it, but at this point it is better to get the ball picked up, get things moving, and help the survivors than to stand around laying blame.

Quoted for truth and thank you, Exarch0.

Given that the number one thread on this forum (stickied) is in memory of a person who died in this hurricane, it is more appropriate at this time to right the wrongs and "take care of our own" and save the blaming and finger pointing for the aftermath of caring for the citizens of Louisiana.

lol no we just don't give a shit. Their fault for not leaving in the first place, now I have to give a shit for people stealing laptops and everything else in sight. BULL! let them die for all I care. Food I can understand, but those little shits shooting at helicopters hijacking cars, and stealing electronics , SHOULD be left behind, better yet shot on sight.

send them food, water, Medical supplies, Medical aid. supplies for rebuilding. Even refugee support for moving them with buses or trains to other states or relocation camps. But nothing else. The big easy is GONE. face it. Burn it to the ground and rebuild. this time out of the flood plain.

The new Orleans government is also at fault for KNOWING that this was a possibility for a Worst Case scenario and not having a contingency plan for it. Not having reserve medical supplies and rations in bunkers somewhere is inexcusable.

My family grew up in the 60s when BEING PREPAIRED was a way of life in the USA. Now everyone thinks they are DUE. That the government is responsible for everyone's well being. bull. its YOUR responsibility to survive with what you have, or move on to someplace you CAN survive. If the government were to be destroyed through an attack what would you do then? bend over and kiss your a$$ goodbye I guess.

Those people just standing around and not walking out are PATHETIC. 1 days walk and they would be clear of the disaster, but Noooo. do they do that? of course not. They stand around waiting for someone to do something for them. Guess what? its not happening very fast is it? It CAN"T, Most of the heavy transportation lines are GONE, and Power is also GONE. infrastructure... ALSO GONE.

Start heading to civilization again. their lives as it HAS been is over. they MUST move on and start over. Or they will die. one or the other. Its their choice. But those people that insist on staying in the flooded areas are fools. plain and simple. refusing helo lifts out is ridiculous. The Transports are for those that CAN NOT walk or drive out. that's to be expected. anyone capable of walking should be NOW.

Most of the people left behind were very poor people. Most of those who live in New Orleans are below the poverty line (Or were, I should say). Many didn't even own cars.

Is it someone's fault for having airflights out of New Orleans stop or for being inherently too poor to even leave the city in time?

Most of those pathetic people are 65+; sure, the younger ones would be able to walk out but where are you going to go?

With no leader or direction, do you think they should just go trudging through swamp lands??

I am not advocating relief for lawbreakers, other than to see them tossed in jail. I am talking about the hundreds of thousands of homeless law abiding citizens.

Like I said above, where are they going to go? I'm sure almost none of those people were carrying around compasses or maps of Southern Louisiana when they took shelter.

I did. I lived through the Northridge Earthquake in California 10yrs ago. and I was prepared. We were right where the I5 freeway fell, completely cut off from the city. we survived for 3 weeks on emergency supplies. before life was restored. we also formed a community watch in the apartment complex I lived in to search for survivors and setup an aid center. All without lawlessness. the first looter got their butts thrown out of the community. and cut off from fresh water supplies. Pools were used for reserve washing water stores, and for general sterilization. We used community vehicles within the complex to find open access route to more supplies after the 2nd week. and we were getting ready to walk out as a group when they reopened the back way into the area.

No power, no natural gas for cooking or heat, no Fresh water, No way out other then walking cause the roads were gone. Same situation. it doesn't take a genius to head away from a disaster. You just go.

Baton Rouge looks like where most people are heading if they can. good for them.

To HT Ingram: my apologizes. Too bad you don't live in New Orleans, they could use more people like you.

In regards to the general situation: The biggest mistake was the city using the Stadium as a "shelter", without being prepared for the inevitable: 25,000 plus people stuck there with no food, water, or protection.

Those people with no cars should have been bussed out before the storm. Period.

The mayor sounded pretty desperate. Basically, you have armed gangs running around taking what they want, thanks to free weapons at Wal-mart.

The National Guard will have to fight another war, only this time it's in the US. It's a sad, sad day for America.

you know what the situation is very sad.... as stated above most of those left behind had no way out...

it's good to see the goodness in people come out to help each other in a time of crisis.. but it saddens me to see the amount of people taking advantage of the situation and resorting to crime... i'm all for stealing a loaf of bread and milk for your children who after being stuck on a roof for 3 days with out food and clean water need it.... but general looting is a bad thing.. and the shooting at rescuers as well is deplorable..

but lets not forget that it is not only new orleans who has suffered... many parts of the south have been destroyed...

i know i never thought i would see my dad's town on the news... Bay st Louis
but i cried when i saw the only thing standing of our marina where i caught my first fish... was the american flag, bent and broken but still waving...
the only thing left on main st is 1 building... my fathers home.... while it can be repaired itis one of the only homes on his block that is still standing .. and it may be standing.. but it needs to be completly re-built....
the elementary school where my little brother just started 1st grade... gone.. the highschool... pretty much in the same shape...
my heart goes out to anyone who was stricken by this tragedy...... and those who know people affected as well.....

it is just sad to see that tragedy brings out the best in some.. but the worst in many many others

What really pisses me off is how the media is only showing the bad shit, and making it worse. Showing all the people looting, only interviewing those who can't speak worth a shit. I think what people need to understand is that crisis brings out both the best and the worst in people, some have lost everything...but they cope and help out how they can. While others lose some, and get pissed and start shooting people. It's really making the south look bad, which really pisses me off personally.

See, the only people who are in New Orleans and such right now, are those at or below the poverty level. They're generally uneducated, they didn't have much if anything to begin with, and now it's only worse. And with all the media interviewing and filming the crap, people are ONLY seeing the poverty in the south, because all the middle class+ who could get out, got out. And it makes me mad because I lived down there a few years ago, and many people were actually smarted than half the little shits here in Iowa.

Just get the people help, and get things fixed. And screw every goddam reporter who interviews the victims and doesn't even dish out a bottle of water.
